Amani Nature Reserve

amani nature reserve

Amani is one of the few biodiversity hotspots in the world, the treasure of a forest that forms a practically unique slice of nature.it is here that slopes of the mountains hide East Africa last remnants of lowland forests or evergreen rain forest together with an assembly of submontane forests fed by moist air currents arriving from the Indian Ocean 50 kilometre away.

All these natural riches have provided ample opportunities for the process of evolution to create quite original paths. There are number of bird ,plant, reptiles, and arthropod species to be found only here and on the mountains nearby. Aman is one of the few remaining refugees where one can admire African violets, the flowering house plants that are so well known in Europe and North America in particular.
Activities are guided hiking along trails, short night walks possible as well, and those the planning to practice a special activity such as surveying months by light-trapping are advised to arrange a research permit from the Tanzania commission for science and Technology.
