Mikumi is the most popular Tanzania national park and its located north of selous game reserve 315km from Dar es salaam, and covers the area of 3,230square kilometer area and the fourth largest park in Tanzania.
The mikumi flood plain,with its open grasslands,dominates the park together with the mountain ranges. Lions are comomonly seen, elephants are also encountered and other animals frequently seen are Thompson Gazelles eland, giraffe, kudu, warthog, waterbuck, buffalo, civet, velvet monkey, wildebeest as the packs of wild dog are rare elsewhere in Africa.
Monitor lizard, giant python and crocodiles are also founds in the park. The flood plain also supports Over 400 species of birds both residents and migratory species most which are Eurasian migrants who stays during rainy season.Hippos are the star attraction of the pair of pools,supported by an ever-changing cast of waterbirds.
